Who develops Time Atlas?
Time Atlas is created by a Finnish-US startup, Time Atlas Labs Oy, based in Helsinki. We are backed by top investors and angels. The company was founded in October 2024.
How can the app be free, how will you make money?
Our plan is to introduce a subscription based "advanced mode" in the near future. The basic functionality of the app will remain free, but we hope power users will find the additional features worth paying. Time Atlas also has been built so that operating it costs very little. Most importantly, all data processing happens in the phone (exception is the AI features, which will be probably part of the paid plan). This is how the app will remain free -- every new user costs us very little, as we do not do any computation in the cloud. Are my data and notes private?
Time Atlas uses end-to-end encryption. If you have signed in, your data (such as notes, logs, locations, activities, workouts) is synchronized to the cloud encrypted, so that only your app is able to read the data. Even the employees of Time Atlas Labs are not able to see your data.
However, note that some data, particularly photos and heart-rate data is not stored by Time Atlas. For photos, we only store reference (identification) of the photo, but load it from the iOS Photo Library when displaying it. Heart rate data is queried in real-time from Apple Health, and is not stored by Time Atlas.
Can I export my data?
Yes! The data is all yours. On the top-left corner there is a button to view Settings. You can find "Export my data" options in the Settings.
You can also export your data from charts under the Dashboard in CSV form (in advanced mode). These files can be opened in any spreadsheet application, such as Numbers or Microsoft Excel.
If I delete a photo from my Photo Library, why does it disappear from my Diary?
Time Atlas only stores a reference to your photo in its database, and the photo image itself is loaded from iOS Photo Library. If you delete the photo from your library, we cannot show it in Time Atlas app.Can I add a photo in my Diary so that it does not appear in my iOS Photos?
Currently Time Atlas only supports images from the iOS Photo Library. Let us know (via the Feedback-button), if you would like a feature to store photos privately.Does Time Atlas use GPS all the time?
No. Time Atlas uses GPS only selectively, when it determines that you are likely on the move. The app has been designed to use as little battery as possible without sacrificing the accuracy of location and activity recognition.
What is the difference between a Note and a Log?
Notes are used to add comments, notes, memories about a day, place visit or activity.
Logs are used for tracking numerical data, such as weight, pushups, beers, water, pigeons, .... you name it! Logs is an experimental feature that we hope to get feedback on.
Can I import my data from the Moves app?
Time Atlas is a replacement for the Moves app (discontinued in 2018), and you can import your data from the Settings. Read our blog post about it.
